can we step up dc power using transformer?
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Answer / shobana
Yes. But not directly. First DC has to be converted to AC
by using inverters. Then It can be stepped up using the
transformer

Transformer is a static device which only step-up and step-
down the AC voltage keeping power constant. An amplifier can
step-up DC power.

A TRANSFORMER IS A DEVICE WHICH STEP UP AND STEP DOWN AC
VOLTAGES,BUT NOT FOR DC

Answer / shekhar
it requires ac input to change the direction of magnetic
flux then only we get ac output.
if dc is used it will be over heated and saturation problem
arises

Answer / chitta ranjan panda
no, because in dc change in flux is zero.so we can n't appy
dc directly.

Answer / vikrant gokul labhane
NO,We can not step up DC power using transformer.
DC having both potantial (ie.+ve &-ve )and when it is
connected to primary wdg. of transformer ,primary get short
ckt.& burned (Heat wiil produced).
BUT THERE IS ANOTHER WAY -
* First convert DC power into AC power by using inverters &
after then that AC power can convert into DC power by
rectifire at suitable range as you required.

primary will burnt out due to the fact that there is no
electromagnetic induction in secondary there was no current

Answer / ganesan
i=v/(r+jx);x=2*3.14*f*L;
In case of ac it has 50hz frequency .so both the reactance
x and r resistance is available. In case of Dc it does not
have frequency .so reactance is zero and resistance in the
circuit is very small.
i=v/(r+0);so DC power taking more initial current .it may
burnt out the transformer windings.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 6 Yes | 1 No |
Answer / mohsin
no, because there will be no magnetic induction and the
transformer will burn out.

Answer / sailesh ranjan patel
no, in transformer dc is not given directly because dc has
both positive & negative potential& when dc is connected
with primary of transformer primary is s.c & burn.
