if a dc supply is given to field winding due to inductive effect winding gets shorted and causes damage to the winding So to limit the current high resistance is used.But armature winding has the back emf facility to overcome this drawback

whycircuit breaker is not connected at the generator end where the capacity of the generator is more say 60MW, 100MW etc.
