its the difference between the stator speed and the rotor speed with respect to stator speed
Ns-stator speed
Nr-rotor speed
 slip=(Ns-Nr)/Ns
it usually varies between 0-1
when Ns=Nr then slip=0,that means rotor rotates with the same speed as that of stator,then induction motor is called synchronous motor

It is the difference between the synchronous speed ( Ns) and actual speed of the rotor or rotor speed (Nr). It can be expressed in per minute ( Ns - Nr ,both being rpm ),per second or percentage ( Ns - Nr)x 100 /Ns .
