1.Cold Loop Check
This is an electrical continuity check to confirm wiring integrity from control panel's terminal block to the field instrument. Please note that field cabling starts from field instrument and goes through Junction boxes and marshaling cubicle to reach termianal blocks of the control panel
2.Hot loop check
After successful cold loop check, each I/O is subjected to hot loop check. In this testing entire loop functionality is checked by simulation of the signal with power up from DCS or PLC
1.Calibration range
2.Activation of inputs / outputs / Field switches / Solenoids
3.PLC/DCS register updates
4.SCADA updates

Cold loop check may also called as continuity test, to identify weather the cable are terminated at its correct terminal blocks from field side instruments to Control panel. At this time no power is present in the loop, or it may be isolated from the power source. It can be done using a Multi meter.
Hot loop check is done after cold loop test to identify the instrument is at correct range, units, and its dependency with the control instrument. so can be change and calibrate using a communicator or manually while the instrument is energized from the panel by 24 volt or vice versa.

Cold loop checking = continuity test, ir test make sure the cables are damaged or un damaged
Hot loop checking = instrument functionality test its means the instrument is in running condition if any fault may occur r not its should be make sure
