Answer / niharika
both are the units of power..
KVA is the apparent power i.e V*I irrespective of the power factor on which it is working.Eg.transformer can work in lagging and leading pf.
while KW is the active power i.e V*I*pf, it is the actual output power which is obtained for doing specified mechanical work. Eg. motor

Answer / madasamy
1.wats used in motors.. KVA used in transformers .
2.motor power depens on P.F therfore motor power equal to v.i.cos(pi)
3. but transformer power depends only v and i so p=vi
if transformer capacity 100 KVA is equal to 100*0.9=90kw we assumming p.f is 0.9

Watt is the measuring unit of power which can be measured as we know that some of the input energy is converted in to magnetic field and helps in the operation of machine as in motor a part of input is converted in to electromagnetic field which induces currents in rotor and we measure the output work in terms of KW
Kva is the unit of input that is apparent power and the measuring unit of power which cannot be measured is kvar that is reactive component of apparent power
