there is no engineering reason for that.
the reason is economical.
since they start generating by three phase and the following
designs was based on the first models, and it is difficult
to change the system that already exist so they continue to
design three phase generators and transmission systems.

IN CASE OF 3PHASE SYSTEM,LENGTH OF CONDUCTOR NEEDED IS LESSER,,ALSO REGULATION IS GOOD IF WE USE 3PHASE..
