in 1:2:4 concrete, spcify 1,2 and4 as towhat they indicate?..

Answer / amol v. patil

In 1:2:4 concrete, this is actually the mix proportion and varies from M5 to M100 as per my knowledge.
The ratio is generally 1:n:2n
The first number 1 refers to volume of cement.
The second number 2 refers to volume of sand.
The third number 4 refers to volume of coarse aggregate.

i.e., if cement is 50 litres, then sand will be 100 litres and coarse aggregate will be 200 litres.
Actually we have to convert cubic feet of these materials to litres and then apply.

Thank You.
