what is the function of a Master trip relay? why is it used ? ..

Answer / sennapparajan

Master trip realy is the main trip relay. The breaker will
trip through This relay only. in transmission &
disttribution line there are so many protection relays
like....distence relay overcurrent earth fault,
diffrential. All the relay'S contact will connet parelly to
master trip relay. if any of the protection rely sence the
fault... it will energise the master trip rely and the
master trip relay will trip the breaker.it got one more
name like lock out relay.

what is the function of a Master trip relay? why is it used ? ..

Answer / linu mohan

master Trip relay 86 is the main tripping relay in the relay
protection scheme. It is actually tripping the breaker
poles. It acts because of the stimuli from any of the
protection relays. It's tripping coils are related with the
actuators from different relays. For example Directional
overcurrent relays and earth fault relays

what is the function of a Master trip relay? why is it used ? ..

Answer / satya rout (oeg rr)

In a transmission &
disttribution system a high voltage line there are so many protection relays are used
like-distence relay, overcurrent & overvoltage rly, earth fault rly,
diffrential rly . All the relay'S are connet paralley to
master trip relay. if any of the protection rely sence the
fault... it will send a voltage signal ,then energise the master trip rely coil and the
master trip relay will trip the breaker.

what is the function of a Master trip relay? why is it used ? ..

Answer / vinod

FUNCTION- Master trip relay 86 main function is to pick up the trip coil of the circuit breaker, relay 86 pick up if any of the protection relay of the respective feeder or equipment operate.
86 relay is a manual reset relay (its avoid multiple charging of the faulty system with unknown operators)

USAGE: The relay pick up through the protection relay contact(static or numerical) have less current rating, it can not carry the trip coil current of the circuit breaker
