for efficient operation we have to maintain unity power factor(1) but it is possible only for resistive loads
that's why in EB lines trys to maintain approximately 1 that is 0.99 to decrease the losses. capacitor bank used to POWER FACTOR correction

Generally capacitors are used to improve power factors in inductive loads... Inductive load will reduce the current phase with voltage.. so lagging power factor is obtained.. in order to recover that, capacitance is provided which will reduce the voltage phase with current..so the pf remains almost near to 1(not exactly one)...

(1)the cosine angle between voltage and current is called
power factor ,
already we know very well about cos value
cas 0= 1
(2)whenever the cosine angle between voltage and current
zero time a full power is utilized / consumed
but power factor lagging time a full power is not
utilized/consumed
(3)so we are maintained in power factor in unity
(4) to regulate voltage in power system we are used in
capacitor bank used(vanthni@yahoo.com)
