You can apply only single or two phase supply to the field
and there will be induced voltage in armature like a
transformer.The dc supply is given to create north and south
magnetic poles in the field.

whenewher three phase supply is given to induction motors revolving/rotating field is created & rotor rotates.When the three phase supply is given to three phase transformer then revolving,/rotating field is created or not? if not why?
