neutral is grounded so that if there is any imbalance in
currents then the phasor difference of those currents reach
the ground ...means it is used for protection of
devices...in case there is imbalance in the currents then
the devices supplied by the transformer may get burned..

The neutral is grounded for:

1.To give a refrence voltage point with respect to earth
voltage ( Zero volt)

2.To facilitate operation of earth fault relay & other
relays like negetive sequence relay etc.
