What is eddy current? Describe the operating principle of proximity probe...

Answer / Deep Agnihotri

Eddy currents are induced electrical currents within a conductor when it is subjected to varying magnetic fields or moving relative to a magnet. These currents can cause heat, forces, and electromagnetic fields, depending on the specific application. Proximity probes use this principle by detecting changes in eddy currents to measure the distance between an object and the probe or to determine the size, shape, or composition of objects. The operating principle relies on the fact that when a probe is brought near a metal object, it induces eddy currents in the metal, which in turn generate a magnetic field. This magnetic field interacts with the probe's coil, causing an electrical signal that can be used to measure the distance between the probe and the object.
