Why the tank of transformer is made rectangular not circular??

Answer / d. sivakumar
the core of the transformer is in rectangle in shape. the
area of contact with air is more in case of rectangle tank
than circle tank. this will lead to better cooling of
transformer. hence rectangular tanks are widely used

as the coil of t/f is rectangular at each side of core. if
we use the circuilar tank the cooling of coil is not same
at evry point. so we insted of using circular we use the
the rectangular tank

Circular tanks are also possible but cooling is tedious job
in circular tank. So we use cubical or rectangular tanks.

Both rectangular and Oval shape tank can be used for
transformer. In terms of steel fabrication, rectangular
tank is easier for mass production compare to oval because
it does not require to roll the steel plate for precise
dimension.Hence,in the market, it will be more commonly
practised. But oval shape tank can reduce the usage of
transformer oil due to reduction of volume.

In the rectangle we get more spsce in cornar it is great
for the colling but in the circle ther is equal area so we
are not use circle

Answer / anandhakrishnan t
the rectangular TF is preferred always for 2 reasons,
* As the rectangular structure takes much space than the circular due to air circulation for cooling.
* Another main reason is that the mutual induction is possible(maximum) only when the 2 coils are held parallel(2winding Tf) or straight one below another(auto TF). For the circular arrangement, the magnetic coupling is minimum(parallel mag fields only @ 0 deg and 180 deg).

Answer / gouttam kumar
The transformers are rectangular because of the way the magnetic core is built.
To reduce the magnetic losses in the magnetic core this has to be made of multiple sheets of metal stacked together. All the sheets are cut with the same dye and are stacked in packs.
To make circular core out of sheets of metal is costly and with no real gains.

if by circular tank u mean oval tank, we make oval tanks.
if by circular tank u mean circular tank, its the economy
that dictates.
