What is the role of ESP(Electro Static Precipitator)in
steam power plants?
Where it is located?
How it works?
Answer / iamdon
ESP collects flyash and other solid suspended particles
from exhaust gases of a coal fired boiler furnace.
Use of ESP is mandatory now a days for steam power plants
to meet the pollution norms. Violating this, power
generation companies(GENCOs) will not be allowed to take
part in power generaions.
Sequence of various components from boiler to the chimeny.
Boiler->Economiser->Air pre heater->ESP->Induced Draught
Fan->chimney.
Parallel plates of ESP are supplied with high DC voltage.
While passing through these plates,charge is imparted on
fule gases by means of corona discharge.
Charged dust particles are attracted by ESP plates and
removed.
