what is the formula to calculate kva genset required for a
given load in kw.
Answers were Sorted based on User's Feedback
Kva Required is = KW/0.8( Power factor )
& as the DG set is prefered to run at 80% load of the total
capacity then the Rated capacity is KVA/0.8
If the load is 100 KW rhen KVa is 100/0.8 = 125 KVa & the
rated kva is 125/0.8 = 156.25 KVA say 160 kva D.G set is
required.

Normaly relation between kVA and kW can be described as:
For 1phase system->kW=kVA X power factor.
For 3phase system->kW=3^(1/2)*V*I*power factor (V&I are
line voltage and current respectively)
