What is method of calculating the fault current for a MDB,
50KW, 3PH, 415V, 50HZ?
Answer / Ravi Krishnan
The formula to calculate the fault current (I_{f}) for a MDB (Motor-Generator set) is: I_{f} = sqrt(3) * P / V where: P is the power rating of the MDB in kilowatts (50KW), and V is the voltage rating of the MDB in volts (415V). Therefore, the fault current for a 50KW, 3PH, 415V MDB is: I_{f} = sqrt(3) * 50 / 415 ~ 3.87 A.
