Answer / rao shahb
stress is defined as the ratio of resting force developed in
body to the area.
pressure is defined as the force acting on a body per unit area.

STRESS IS INTERNAL FORCE PER UNIT AREA OF A BODY, WHERE
PRESSURE IS EXTERNAL FORCE PER UNIT AREA OF A BODY.SO THAT
THEY HAVE SAME UNIT.

See first of all pressure is one form of the stress and
especially this term is used in fluid mechanics to denote
the force exerted per unit area in a direction normal to the
surface however stress is a wider term equally used in fluid
and solid mechanics in which case it is a tensor quantity
requiring three things for complete description
1.Magnitude
2.Direction
3.Orientation of the surface
now in case of pressure as most people interpret u have
fixed your "orientation of the surface as normal to it"
hence one only talks about its magnitude and direction as
horizontal or vertical pressure as for example a water in a
beaker has downward pressure exerted at bottom due to its
weight and the side walls too need to bear the static
pressure of water in beaker.
I do hope I have made it clear to all of you!

Pressure is a scalar, i.e it is the same in all directions,
but stress is a vectorial quantity.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 4 Yes | 4 No |
Answer / dibyendu mohanta
Stress is basically a tensor quantity but Pressure is a scalar quantity, although if pressure is measured over an infinitesimal area, it can also be regarded as a vector. But generally it is taken as a scalar.

Answer / praveen kumar
Actually Stress can be called as repulsive in nature
(reaction) and pressure is considered as "action"
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 2 Yes | 2 No |
Answer / mithilesh. s .rane
Stress is a tensor quantity while pressure is vector
quantity. Moreover pressure is acting quantity on a unit
area i.e.force while stress is caused due some force.
