Slip ring is used in an induction motor to add external
resistance

I.M are two types.slip-ring and Sq.cage type motors. in
cage motors windings are in the form of short circuited
conducter bars. which have high reactance, due to at the
time of staring they will draw more reactive power and
having less straing torque.
*** in slip ring induction motors we add extra resistance
to reduce drawing high current at the time of starting and
improves starting torque.
**** main use of Slip rings is improving starting torque.

main use of slip ring in IM is to add extra resistance to the motor and to give starting current as well as starting torque , when we use slip ring we have to give these connection to the lrs or grr then only it gets SC
