why dc supply is not applied for step up or down in
transformer

Answer / sunil parmar
for working of any transformer if AC is applied on primary
side of x'mer flux is linked between the two windings and
thus EMF is produced on the secondary side.and is step uped
and downed depending upon the secondary winding...
but if DC is applied as is direct current so no alternating
properties.so no flux linkage and due to very low
reactance and zero frequency in DC will produce
circulating current on primary side of the transformer and
thus will burn the windings

Answer / janarthanan.v
If we give dc supply to the transformer there won't be any
frequency or flux in DC supply .So there won't be any output
in secondary side and on primary side there will be no self
induced emf to limit the primary current. This makes the
primary current to burn.

In dc no alternating flux will be produced bcoz of this we
cant apply dc...
