1. During switching 'on' the transformer that causes
magnetising inrush current with the core still in the
magnetising build-up state harmonics occur.
2. Due to non linear loads.
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 7 Yes | 1 No |
this is due to magnetostriction energy . whenever
ferromagnetic material during magnetization changes
therefore it results in a loss and this effect is
called as magnetostriction and this is the reason
for the generation of harmonics

when transformer is running with no load.then current flow
in transformer is very high than rated current of
transformer. this current is know as magnetising inrush
current. it is contain different types harmonics i.e dc
component (30% to 40% ) ,secondary harmonic (30% to
70% ),third harmonic
(10% to 30%).
