What is meant by transformer, why it should be used, with
out that equipment what happens if we transformed the
supply?

Answer / phani
transformer is an equipment which is used to transfer
power, voltage, current with out changing its frequency.it
is also used to increase or decrease the voltage by using
diffeent types of transformers like step-up and step down
transformers.if we transfer the power with out transformer
the voltage rating will come down as the distance of
transmission is increasing.

TRANSFORMER IS A STATIC DEVICE WHICH TRNSFORMS THE POWER
FROM ONE CIRCUIT TO ANOTHER CIRCUIT BY CHANGING THE VOLTAGE
NOT BY CHANGING THE POWER AND FREQUENCY.
TRANSFORMERS ARE USED TO TO GET THE DESIRED VOLTAGE LEVEL.
IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO TRANSFER THE POWER WITHOUT
TRANSFORMER.BECAUSE ELECTRICITY CAN'T BE SENT AT 440/415V
FROM GENERATING STATION TO CONSUMER'S PREMISES.WE SHOULD
TRANSMIT AT HIGH VOLTAGE(IN KV).OTHERWISE POWER CAN'T BE
RECEIVED.

A transformer can accept energy at one voltage and deliver
it at another voltage. This permits electrical energy to be
generated at relatively low voltages and transmitted at
high voltages and low currents, thus reducing line losses
and voltage drop hence transformers are issential for power
transmition

Transformer is that stactic device which transfers power
from one ckt. to other w/o changing frequency.
Transformer is used for stepping up & down the voltage
levels or as per requirments whenever needed.
Voltage level should be lower for Consumers like
Industries, Domestic, etc as compared to Generating
stations, Substations, switchyards hence w/o Trafo, voltage
level can't be changed like stepping up or down, hence to
get desired voltage level, we have to use transformers.

transformers are static device....they are used to step up
or step down the voltage in the transmission line....without
transformers the transmission will not be possible because
from the generating station the the voltage must be stepped
up for transmission purpose and after that it has to be
stepped down for domestic and industrial usage

transformer is a electromagnetic energy conversion device,
which transforms electrical energy at one level to
electrical energy at a required
(higher/lower/same:stepup/stepdown/isolation)level.
Generally energy conversion is used to enhance any kind of
energy available into a required form of energy we need.
When we consider a transformer from external terminals it is
not a energy conversion device, but it is a energy
conversion device if we see it internally (as it is a
electromagnetic energy conversion device).
Thus by this electromagnetic energy conversion we are able
to get more electrical energy out put when compared to the
magnetic input for the conversion.
If we don't use the transformer we cannot supply consumer
appliances at their required voltage ratings(230V/415V)

There are so much types of transformer, I believe that your
question is for power transformer as I understand so,
P=V*i
where P is a power ,V is a voltage &i is a current.
A collision of the partial of electron with the partial
material of cable produce a heat and at the end a fire.
so the current is a huge of electron then if we try to
transport a current for along distances we will face a big
problem, we need for that a very big size diameter of
cable to solve this problem and it is very expensive.
then we can reduce a value of current to minimum and
increase the value of voltage to maximum, how it is by
using Power Transformer.

actually ppl r wrong..there aint two types of trafo...i
mean step up and step down trafo are the same...in the step
up trafo give supply to the secondary and v have a step
down trafo. what say ppl????

During the troubleshooting of an inoperative shunt generator, you found the voltage to be 2+ volts; what is known from this. Is it (1). odds are the armature is good (2). odds are there is no field current flowing in field windings (3). odds are the armature is bad (4). both 1 & 2 are correct (5). both 2 & 3 are correct

I need to compare the energy consumption of an industrial machine before and after improving. Shall I compare the apparent power or the active power? I know usually factories use compensated capacitors (or other similar components) to compensate the reactive power, so if I use the apparent power, it's not the real power consumed.
Thermal withstand capability under full short circuit conditions, in terms of number of times of occurrence of short circuit and corresponding anticipated percentage reduction in transformer life.
