the morning, they can average 40 miles per hour on the way
to their destination. Due to the heavy Sunday traffic, they
can average only 30 miles per hour on the return trip. What
is the farthest distance from home they can plan to go?

First, let's calculate the total driving time for each direction:nnTime to destination = Distance / Speed = (Farthest distance) / 40 hoursnTime return = Farthest distance / 30 hoursnnThe total driving time should not exceed 8 hours. So, we can write the inequality:nn(Distance / 40) + (Distance / 30) <= 8nnNow, let's solve for Distance:nn30 * Distance <= 40 * 8 * 30nnSolving for Distance gives us the maximum distance they can travel: Distance = 2880 miles.
