what are nanoemulsions and how are they prepared?
i want a brief outline about nanoemulsions..
is anyone of you is having any literature, can you share
that? also any an idea where i can get the information?
Answer / Arun Verma
Nanoemulsions are colloidal systems composed of oil droplets stabilized in water or water droplets stabilized in oil by a surfactant layer. They offer improved stability, solubilization capacity, and bioavailability for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) compared to traditional emulsions. Here's a brief outline of the preparation process:
1. Selection of appropriate surfactants and co-surfactants to stabilize the oil droplets in water or water droplets in oil.
2. High-energy methods like high-pressure homogenization, microfluidization, or ultrasonication are used to reduce the droplet size below 100 nanometers.
3. Phase inversion temperature (PIT) technique can also be employed for the preparation of water-in-oil (w/o) nanoemulsions.
4. The formulation is characterized using techniques like dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and zeta potential measurements to confirm the size, stability, and charge of the nanoemulsion.nLiterature on nanoemulsions can be found in academic journals such as the Journal of Controlled Release, Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, and Pharmaceutical Research. Additional resources can be found through online databases like PubMed and Google Scholar.
