Development length is the length overlap of bars tied to
extend the reinforcement length. is about 50 times the dia
of bar is consider to safe.
Anchorage length- this is the additional length of bar
recquired ti insert in another at the junction. For example-
Main bar of the beam in column at beam column junction.
this length is simiilar to the lap length.

Development Length : Is a length of bar or
reinforcement rod is required to transfer the load to
another bar safely and not affecting to the member which is
in it. 49 times of bar is compression and 46 times is in
tension. But in construction 50 times takes of bar diameter.
Anchorage Length : Required distance to transfer
load and which is depends up on member competence i.e. type
of materials used and bearing strength and type of grout
which is in it.

Basically the development length is the length which should
be such that the stress should develop on both sides of the
point of maximum stress in the steel bar. If this point is
in the mid span of the beam then it can develop on both
sides but if the maximum stress is at the end (like in
cantilever) then we need to provide extra length beyond the
end support center line. If this extra anchoring length is
straight which is not beyond the nominal cover of the end
support then its same as development length and if this
extra anchoring is beyond the nominal cover of the end
support, then it is not straight bar i.e. with hooks then it
is called as anchorage length which is used to provide full
development length & an additional length for stability of
the structure. Therefore it is the anchorage length must
provide to detail any structure which have the same
situation as described in the above rather than development
length.

This is the additional length of steel of one structure required to be inserted in other at the junction. For example, main bars of beam in column at beam column junction, column bars in footing etc.
