how does bode plot have an advantage over root locus? how
does it determine the stability of a system depending upon
the location of poles and zeroes?

Bode plot measures out Gain Margin and Phase Margin. Gain
margin gives the value of gain you can adjust to bring back
the system to stable (in case system is unstable) or gain
upto which you can adjust without affecting the system
stablitiy.

usually root locus is to know how the system closed loop
poles vary when a particular parameter of the system is
varied( generally parameter is choosen is gain). the plot is
located in s plane. in bode plot gain vs frequency is
plotted for a particular k(gain) value. so gain is adjusted
with respect to frequency in bode plot.
