for an inverter (UPS)?
is there any harm ?

NO HARM BUT THE SIZING WILL BE DIFFERENT IN THAT CASE

For what purpose you are going to connect the two batteries? To increase the voltage you have to connect the batteries in series not in parallel. If you want to increase the current then connect the batteries in parallel.
For further knowledge on the series and parallel connection of the batteries go to the link below:

No harm in connecting batteries in parallel of same capacity, it will increase the Ampere hour capacity,

If the batteries are identical there is no problem in
connecting parallel, but if the internal resistances are
different then there will be a circulatery current in
batteries as in transformers... this may heatup the
batteries.

what do you mean by sizing will be different
u want to say that size of the UPS' unit will be bigger or
what ?
would you kindly explain this to me ?

Answer / international ups imports and
there will be no harm for ur ups if u connect so.the only
thing is going to happen is it will increase ur backup time.
but u have to take care of ur circuit inbuilt initially as
there may be a chance of over currents when power
fluctuations occur like low voltage for long time, etc

I BOUGHT A HAVELLS ACCL WITH GENERATOR STOP FASCILITY(i.e- BASICALLY IT IS A AUTO CHANGE OVER SWITCH) FOR MY HONDA EXK 2000S HOME GENERATOR (WHICH START IN PETROL & RUN IN KEROSENE). ACCL HAS 8 POINT. 2 FOR MAINS(PH & NUE), 2 FOR LOAD, 2 FOR GEN AND 2 FOR IGNITION POINT(X1 & X2). THE IGNITION POINT IS SPECIALLY FOR AUTO ENGINE STOP WHEN MAINS POWER RESTORE. I CONNECT THIS X1 & X2 POINT TO THE GENERATOR STATER MOTOR & EARTHING POINT. BUT WHEN MAINS FAILS THE GENERATOR COULD NOT START, BUT WHEN DISCONNECT THOSE X1 OR X2 POINT, THEN THE GENERATOR START. BUT WHEN MAINS ON THEN THE GENERATOR SHOULD START, AND WHEN I OFF THE MAINS THE GENERATOR AUTOMATICALLY STOP. PLESE HELP ME HOW I STOP THE GENERATOR AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE MAINS RESTORE.
