distribution of power?

i think if in a distribution line if pf becomes leading
then voltage leval increase so it can cause some damages to
the receiving side.

i think when the power factor at
distribution side increases, the recieving
voltage increases according to farranti
effect. But at recieving side we dont
require more than rated voltage. It can
damage the equipment by damaging the
insulation, which is not rated for that
much higher voltage....

The effects of lower power factors, no matter lagging or
leading, will have the same effects on the system such as to
increase the KVA rating of machines, increase the copper
losses, increase the cost of installation of conductors,
etc. In addition to the above, due to Ferranti effect, the
receiving end voltage will be higher than the sending end
voltage (ie) the voltage regulation will be positive.

dear frnds,
if pf leads then amount of power form sorce to
compensate reavtive power is very less & current value
reduced hence conductor size & swich gear size also reduced
for any clari
contact

Answer / cv
the load starts supplying reactive power to the grid if the
power factor is leading. it only means that the utility
will be applicable for benefits from the cesu.

Answer / subhani
if power factor is leading then current leads
voltage.so,better regulation can be obtained to some extent
as it increases the receiving end voltage by compensating
the voltage drop caused by lagging reactance if any present
in the netwok as all the daily used loada are lag in
nature.no compensation of line wil b required.it ensures
stability of the system.

When PF is leading, this will create a same problem like
lagging PF.
i.e current taken from source is increased
Cable size increased
loss increased
eff decreased
regulation poor

Answer / osayamwen osasre anthony
if theirs is high power factor, i.e if the power factor is
close to one:
1.losses in form of heat will be reduced,
2.cable becomes less bulky and easy to carry, and very
cheap to afford, &
3. it also reduces over heating of tranformers.

dear reader..,
if the pf is leading the
power system be smooth as
well as cost also decrease..

I think power factor never become leading or more than 1,because cos has maximum value of 1
