Why Air Conditioner capacity measured in Ton. Like 1.5ton
Answer / sherin sunny
Refrigeration systems were first used to produce ice. The
capacity of a unit was how many tons of ice per day could
be made.
1 ton is the amount of heat that could melt 1 ton of ice
(2000lb) in 24 hours ex. it takes 144 btu of heat energy to
mellt 1lb of ice at 32F.
144btu/lb x 2000lb = 288000 btu < thats how many btus it
takes to melt 1 ton of ice in 24 hours
if an a/c has a 1 ton capacity it will remove 288000
btu/24hr or 12000btu/h
