Know the things with pure reasoning and relate to the
subject..
PUMP is a device just used to increase the energy of the
liquid.
As per BERNOULIS Theorem, energy in a liquid in continuous
flow has 3 components pressure, velocity & datum
(potential) head....
The energy developed can be used to
1) increase the Kinetic energy of the liquid
Application: Liquid cooling systems...
2) increase in the datum head or potential energy of the
liquid.
Application: Transfer of water from sump to overhead tank
in our houses.
3) increase in pressure of the liquid.
Application: Hydraulic pumps.
For utilising any of the above mentioned properly, we have
to restrict the changes of energies to other forms.
That requires proper engineering :-)

Compressor is a device which generates high pressure.
Pump only develops flow but it doesn't create any pressure,
this can be well noticed in centrifugal pump in which even
if you block the outlet there will be no creation of
pressure. But this is not same for reciprocating pump
pressure is generated when the flow of the outlet is
restricted.

Pumps are of many type if you take a simple example of
cetrifugal pump in it the rise in pressure head at any
point of the rotating liquid takes place. The rise in
pressure head at any point of the rotating liquid is
proportional to the square of tangential velocity of the
liquid at that point.Due to high pressure head the flow
increases.

Pump is meant for displacing the fluid with some pressure.
It is true that a pump won't be able to develop desired
pressure unless there is some restriction to the
flow, similarly it is also true that a pump which isn't
capable of developing desired pressure won't develop it at
all even if there is enough restriction for developing
desired pressure. In fact such low pressure pump will also
fail to create flow of the fluid due to that much restriction.

Answer / karthick
in case of centrifugal pump it develops pressure
only.because the kinetic energy of liquid gets converted
into pressure energy that pressure energy is used to raise
the head of the liquid to certain heights

Q(flow)=m(mass)*v(volume)
so volume and mass of fluid are same, thus flow is same, but
pressure is not develope by pump but developing in pump by
its design,so flowrate of fluid is change.

pump develop pressure and folw depending upon dischage line
or discharge control valve opening/
suppose one pump develop 8 bar with 1500 m3/hr flow if
discharge line open to atmosphre flow increase and pressure
down.

pump develops pressure and due to that it increase the flow
of water.

Answer / satheesh.c.
pump is a device which convert mechanical energy to
hydraulic energy
inside the pump casing, impeller is in rotation per unit
time,so that the vacum-pressure is created at suction
side, and then the working fluid is sucked into the pump
cassing, due to continues rotation that fluid then passes to
delivery.
so a pump exactly creates vacum pressue and then it is to
be delived to where we have the purpose.

Answer / karthick
it mainly increases the pressure.due to increase in
pressure there will be rise in the head of water and
thereby the flow occurs
