Higher rating of DG set have lub oil priming pump. It is used to run when DG set is not in working condition hence, it helps to lubricate the moving components of engine. Hence initial torque, wear and tear on engine shall be less and engine takes less time to reach on required RPM.

A pre-lube system provides vital protection to your costly equipment by delivering oil under pressure to the most critical components when they are the most vulnerable to wear — during equipment startup.

Engines, compressors, turbo machinery, motors, generators, transmissions, and all other heavy mechanical equipment have means of lubrication during operation. But with mechanically driven lube pumps, the hot lube oil drains back into the oil sump after shutdown, leaving vital moving parts with only a thin film of residual oil to handle enormous loads during startup. The result is premature wear.

Before starting the DG set we need to switch on the priming
pump,oil will spill to the all moving parts like piston ets
(for lubricating purpose)

Priming pump is used to create positive suction head.When we
start the pump it create low pressure or vacuum pressure at
impeller & due to pressure difference it sucked water .

other wise the present air will generate the cavitation &
choking in pump.
