tell 2 reasons for why only copper is used in domestic
wires& only alluminium in transmission lines ?

Answer / deepakeee
1.alluminium is cost wise less then copper so used in
transmission line
2.pure alluminium not directly used in transmission because
it have low mechnical strength in india we used Aluminium
Conductors Steel Reinforced (ACSR) because it have high
mechnical strength.
1.copper have low loss so we used in domestic purpose...
2.when compare to alluminium ,copper have good conductivity
but availability is less...

1.THE FIRST AND FOREMOST REASON IS THAT COPPER IS MUCH
COSTLIER THAN ALLUMINUM (APPROX 4 TIMES) SO TO RUN HUNDREDS
OF Km OF OVERHEAD LINES WOULD BE MUCH EXPENSIVE.
2.ON THE OTHER HAND CONDUCTIVITY OF Cu IS HIGHER THAN Al
HENCE THE SIZE OF Cu WIRE REQD TO CARRY SAME CURRENT AS OF
Al IS LESSER, ALSO THE LOSSES ARE LESS HENCE LOW TEMP RISE
AND LOW RISK OF INSULATION FAILURE AND SHORT CKT:- AN IMP
FACTOR FOR HOUSE HOLD APPLICATIONS.

alluminium low cost & ht line voltag high & amper low
domestic line voltag low & amper high.because copper
carrant capaciti good & copper flxibal for useing.

Copper is not used for transmission lines because:
its expensive
Prone to vandalism

Appart from the above reasons, Check the molecular mass of
the two elements on the periodic table.
Alluminium is lighter than copper, hence less weight of the
alluminium makes it easy to suspend on the Pylons as
compared to copper conductors. Weight issues is
insignificate in domestic applications, hence use copper.
Alluminium is more conductive than copper, and hence this
reduces the losses over long distances.
Again, The heat disspation factor of alluminium is higher
than copper, as the resistance of conductor increases as
temperature increases, heat disspation factor plays a mojor
role, hence this keeps the ristance of alluminium lower
than that of copper.

1. Copper is costlier than Aluminium(approximately 4
times). As transmission lines span longer distances,
Aluminium is used to keep the initial cost to a low value.
2. Aluminium has higher resistivity/weight ratio.
3. Losses have to be kept to very low value in domestic
purpose. Copper being better conductor than Aluminium is
used for domestic purposes where initial cost involved is
less.

the same for home &
in transmission we have to transmit long distance if we use
copper its(costly&weight)when compared to alum.& distance
b/w the pole is decrease
and due to capacitive sending end Volt SEV < REV if v use
alum some Wat it will reduce.( HV the current flow around
the cable not inside the wire y should v use costly
copper).in LV current flow inside the cable

1. copper has better conductivity than alluminium.good
conducters dont produce magnetic flux that is inducyance of
copper is neglegible.as we domestic loads are operate
nearly unity power factor condition much reactive power is
not needed.so copper is suitable for domestic loads.
but transmission lines have to carry reactive power copper
is not suitable .alluminium is used as its inductance is more.
