tell 2 reasons for why only copper is used in domestic
wires& only alluminium in transmission lines ?
Answer Posted / madhusudhana reddy
1. Copper is costlier than Aluminium(approximately 4
times). As transmission lines span longer distances,
Aluminium is used to keep the initial cost to a low value.
2. Aluminium has higher resistivity/weight ratio.
3. Losses have to be kept to very low value in domestic
purpose. Copper being better conductor than Aluminium is
used for domestic purposes where initial cost involved is
less.
