Answer / vipinj
in the transmission of fm the noise level is very low as
compared to am , and the other factor is efficiency.

In short range comm fm is used because it's bandwidth is
very large and also in fm there is variation in carrier
frequency w.r.t. change in msg signal so there is no noise
in fm.

Answer / anurag gupta
in short range communication the fm is better than am because of following region-:
1)it's bandwidth is large compared to am
2)it's SNR is high compared to am
3)modulation index is very high
and the reason that the range of am is greater than fm becuse of power of transmission is less in fm compared to am.

Answer / vkabes
for short range of communication FM is better because noise
level is very low in fm rather than am. signal to noise
ratio is very high in fm when compared to am. the
modulation index is very high for fm so the signal to noise
ratio is [3/2(MI)^2] so fm is better for short range of
communication.
but the power of fm is always less(power of carrieritself
regardless of the modulation index) as compared to am(max
3(power of carrier)/2).so the range of fm is less than am.

FM support line of sight (LOSS) whereas AM interact with ionosphere that's why AM is suitable for long distance and FM for short distance
| Is This Answer Correct ? | 2 Yes | 0 No |
Answer / jyotsana
FM is used for short distance as compared to AM because in
case of FM thier is less noise, FM works on line of
sight, high signal to noise ratio and transmission power is
less.

Answer / vikas
for short range FM is used. it is because in FM we can use
the frequency reuse technique also it has higher SNR as
compared to AM in case of noisy channel.

Answer / chakri
For short range communication AM is preferred then FM because
if it's low complexity of modulation and demodulation design
PS: For long range power is main problem (SNR low)with AM
that is why we use FM where we can trade Bandwidth(high) for
SNR(gives high SNR)
