DMA means Direct memory access ''for fast transfer of data
between I/O devices and Memory devices and does not involve
the microprocessor''

DMA means Direct memory access, its used to get data's from
memory devices.....

DMA-Direct Memory Access. It means microprocessor can access
datas present in the external memory (can be
ROM,DRAM,EEPROM,etc) without CPU.

whn a text file is o/p to a disk drive, we are concerned
with transferring data from memeory to that drive. yet with
programmed or interrupt driven I/O approches tht data mst
be read from memeory into the cpu and then transffered to
the didk drive . the microproccessor is na
unnecessary "middleman" in this process with the result
that the transfer rate is decresed. the dma is approach is
to turn off the processor and let the disk drive access the
data file in memeory itself : a sort of direct memory
access.

The transer of data between a fast storage device such as
magnetic disk and memory is often limited by the speed of
the CPU, by removing the CPU from the path and letting the
peripheral device manage the memory buses directly would
improve the speed of the transfer, this transfer technique
is called DIRECT MEMORY ACCESS(DMA)...

dma means direct memory access the dma controller raises
hold requests

In practical DMA used to communication between the processor
and another without the need of interrupts. If there is no
interrupts obiviously speed also increase :)

Direct memory access (DMA) is a method of transferring data
between system memory and I/O devices without requiring
intervention by the microprocessor.DMA is more efficient
than programmed I/O, in which the microprocessor reads the
data from the sending device and then writes it to the
receiving device. In DMA data transfers, data can bypass the
system microprocessor as it moves between system memory and
I/O devices. DMA improves server performance because the
microprocessor does not have to interrupt its processing
activities to manage data transfers.
