difference between strainer and filter..

Answer / sandip prajapati

Actually there isn't any since a strainer is, in reality, a
coarse filter. The question is then one of semantics.
Generally it is assumed that if the particle to be removed
is not visible to the naked eye, the unit is filtering, and
if the particle is visible, the unit is straining. The
average human eye can detect a specific particle between 50
and 70 micros. Most people cannot see anything smaller than
325 mesh, or 44 microns. Since 200 mesh is equivalent to 74
microns, a general rule would be that if the screening
device is coarser than 200 mesh, it is a strainer and if it
is finer than 200 mesh it is a filter."

Strainers and filters are both products that filer solids
from fluids. However, when the solid to be filtered is
visible to the naked eye (greater than 40 μm) then the term
“strainer” is used and when filtration is smaller than or
equal to 40 μm, the term “filter” is used.

My vendor filled liquid oxygen in our 11000 liter capacity tank. He filled from 1400 MMWC up to 3200 MMWC. I followed the provided conversion table and found that we had been supplied 1800 MMWC liquid which is going to yield 2815 cubic meter. On the other hand, the vendor claims that he supplied as follows:- 5236 cub mtr(3200 MMWC)-2124 cub mtr(1400MMWC) = 3112 cub mtr. I fear that he wants to charge 297 cubic meters extra. He claims that my method was wrong and his was right. He says that this disparity is because of the conical shape of the base of the flask. I will be thankful if somebody can explain me the truth.
