WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / kiranmayee

It is the standard frequency for India whereas for other
countries it is(110v,60hz).The appliances in India work
only for 50hz frequency.v can change d frequency as in
CYCLOCONVERTERS as the voltage changes frequency also
changes but the output frequency(variable) is lower than
input frequency(fixed). The appliances brought from USA/sum
oder country with(60hz) cant be used in India. Our
requirment is 2 increase the frequency rather dan
decreasing.

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / harish.singarao

In India power generating stations are designed with
alternator which runs on 4 pole.

Since we have formula for syncronous speed

Ns=120f/P ; where f - frequency
p - No of Poles

It is possible to change frequency more than 50 hz, but it
will be a costly affair. We need to design our generating
system for more than 4 poles. second reason is that our
electrical equipments are pre-designed to operate on 50 hz.

If we change 50 hz to some other frequency it is same as
rebuilding INDIA again.

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / mrudula

Actually Britishers have decided it. Since our human eye has
minimum rage of 12hz. so,on our electrical basis 12*4=48Hz
nearly 50hz has been fixed.Once if we change this all our
power systems should be changed.there should be fixed grid
frequency to use it entire the country.

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / viji

due to change in frequency there should be change in power system.Actually the frequency depends on the speed of the generator or motor.
the no of poles also changes due to change in frequency
the entire system should be changed if there is a change in frequency
50hz frequency is also very economical so we consider this range
we may also think that other countries use a range of 60 ....it is based on there economic

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / jyotsna singh

in india the electrical devices are constructed for 50 hz and 230 vlot so if the frequency is chanfed we hav to chanfe the rating of the devices accordingly and as the frequency is directly proportional to the number of poles,if we increase the frequency we have to increase the number of poles also so it is not feasible

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / abubakar siddiq

we can change the freqency e.g in USA it is 60 HZ ..
but at the power plant all the machines design would be
changesd as speed of generator is given as
Ns = 120 * f / P
where p is no of poles of machines and we would have to
change the design of all electrical application to new
frequency ..

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / mohsin hassan

if we use these values the acuracy to creating power is
invesly pepotional to the frequency as:
p=squar of curret .impedence
where the impedence is the sum of resistance and
reactance of the capacitance.so frequency increase mean
mean to use more power.

WHY THE FREQUENCY IS 50 HZ IN INDIA.CAN WE USE SOME OTHER FREQUENCY.IF SO WHAT IS THE RANGE AND WH..

Answer / vijendra joglekar

It is standarad frequency in india.

Electrical equipment made by the manufacture only for
certain frequency can not be used for other frequency.
In some cases it is made to be used for both frequencies
and in that case they specially mentioned on the type plate:
50/60 Hertz.
Example battery charger for laptop computer: on the type
plate itself is mentioned:100/240volts 50/60 hertz(which
means any voltage between 100 and 240 volt plus can be used
on either 50 or 60 Hertz.
Why you can not use other frequency:
because internal current goes up and might this up faster
deteriation of the insulation of wiring, which cause
shortciruit and this may lead fir, which can burn down your
house
