Surge suppressor is nothing but a Lightning arrestor.
It consists of a spark gap in series with a non-linear
resistor nd provides protection to terminal equipment 4m
high voltage travelling waves.

Answer / ukl
surge supressor or we can say surge protector is used to
protect electrical devices from voltage spikes.
The voltage supplied to any electrical device is regulated
either by blocking or by shorting to ground voltages above a
safe threshold.

Answer / panks
It is nothing but Lightning Arrestor which arrests the
lightning strokes, heavy surges which may be induced due to
very high value of current & avoid damage of any electrical
equipment due to these heavy surges.
Surge Suppressor means that equipment which suppresses the
surges i.e. heavy lightning strokes.
