why are transformer rating in MVA..

Answer / subhansab b

We know ratings always depends upon temperature. But temperature always depends on the losses..
We know transformer having only two losses that is core losses and copper losses... we know core losses also known as constant losses because it depends upon voltage and cu losses also known as variable losses because of it depends upon load current...from these two losses we only knows current and voltage.. so we are using VA rating.. For large transformer we we are using MVA ratings

iii) A shunt motor runs at 70 rad/sec from a 460V supply and takes in an armature current of 100A. Resistors of 2.52 ohms and 1.64 ohms are connected in series with the armature and in parallel with the armature respectively. The field excitation remains direct from the 460V supply but the generated torque is halved. Determine the new running speed. Neglect brush voltage drop. The armature resistance is 0.4 ohms. [15]

Electricty is generated at around 16kV, then step up to 220kV for transmission then steped down to power transformers then DTs and then through the LT n/w it reaches the consumer end. At the consumer end 230V supply is required. So, why is electricity not generated directly at 230V and transmitted?
