Journal bearings have low co-efficient of friction at high speed compared to Rolling Contact bearings. So Journal bearings are used for power transmission at high speed.
But at low speed, Rolling contact bearing has low co-efficient of friction. So they are also called anti-friction bearings.

Journal bearing can carry much heaver loads the friction less bearings (ball or roller bearings)
