I know during Surge Impedance Loading maximum power is
transferred through a transmission line and also Sending end
voltage becomes equal to Receiving end voltage i.e Vs=Vr so
my question is if both end voltages are equal then how
current travels in such line hence how power is transmitted
because flow of current needs Potential difference??

Answer / gopal

actually here we are dealing with phasors in AC system .and
Vs and Vr are equal in magnitude but not in phase angle.
power flows from Vs/_ᵟ to Vr/_0 according to the equation of
real power flow
P= Vs Vr Sin(ᵟ) Vs/_ᵟ - Vr/_0
------ = ---------------
Xs I
actually in phasors although their magnitude is equal but
still their difference is not zero and an appriciable
voltage difference exist between the two ends which trigger
current and hence power to flow,

Answer / akash kumar

actually for the transfer of active power in a ac transmission system you need phase difference between the Vs and Vr.a line loaded with its own surge impedance acts as of reactive nature only.its reactive power requirement is supplied by its own line capacitance.thus no reactive component of line current and hence highest ohmic current in the line!!!

P=(Vs*Vr/X)Sin(delta)

Answer / muhammad ismail

Actually you are asking about Vs and Vr and PD.
On load side there is always ZERO Potential thats why power
flows to receiving side in line.

Is a contactor (or master relay) required between incoming lines and a VFD? The question goes to safety. If a contactor were used before the VFD and an e-stop engaged then the motor will coast to a stop (i.e. VFD loses power) instead of stopping much faster if the VFD braking fucntion were used. It would make more sense to keep power on the VFD.

Hi If connecting a temp generator 670KVA .415kv with step up Tx .415/11kv. I am given Generator impedances Z1 Z2 Z0 to 100MVA base. Do I need to work out the generator fault current by using these impedances i.e gen rating / impedance. Then use this as my source impedance for the calculations that follow.
