Applying a square wave or triangular waveform voltage to a transformer's primary winding instead of a sinusoidal waveform can cause several issues, such as higher harmonic distortion, increased core loss, and potential damage to the transformer. The non-sinusoidal waves may also lead to resonance between the transformer and other circuit components, resulting in unstable operation.
