in case of reverse connection CT will not burn . however connected equipment may goes to malfunction or dead condition. as per example if Ct connected to kw meter and connection made inverse then kw meter given reading in Minus
like -245,-500kw . an other if ct work with any protection device like on reverse power relay in gen set and connection made in reverse then gen set goes on reverse power shutdown.

if your protection is only 50/51 there will be no effect, 
but if you enable function of 32,67, and 87T, relay goes to malfuntion
