Why are the voltage levels in a powersystem are 11KV,33KV
etc., why not 10KV,30KV?

In general the voltages are represented in RMS values which
is obtained by multiplying average value with form
factor..........in general voltages are taken in terms of
average values as you have said (10,20......) but as we
multiply it with form factor which is 1.11 for sinusoidal
waveform the voltages become 11Kv,21Kv,33Kv,66Kv...........

To ttransmit power to long distances we need more force (voltage)to move the electrons that's why the voltage in transmission lines are very high.And another reason is when,we increase the voltage level automatically current will ddecreases.This helps the size of the conductor is low.hence cost of the conductor decreases.
