Why are the voltage levels in a powersystem are 11KV,33KV
etc., why not 10KV,30KV?

To ttransmit power to long distances we need more force (voltage)to move the electrons that's why the voltage in transmission lines are very high. And another reason is when,we increase the voltage level automatically current will ddecreases. This helps the size of the conductor is low.hence cost of the conductor decreases. at work we have a 3 phase motor but on testing one phase isnt getting a reading. it runs 24 hours a day all week. stops and starts well no noise or heating. the phase isnt down to earth.is it just a bad meter reading or not? phases one and three came up with a resistance reading of 0.4 but phase 2 couldnt get anything shows up as open circuit.
