Why do you get a typical sound when the transformer is put into operation?

This is normal due to thr inrush current. the sound can be
heared for one to two sec.. some times and according to the
relay settings the transformer may be tripped on over
current and it is normal

Transformers are made with lamination & Cu wire is wounded above them,& the humming sound is heared due to magnetic field produced when current is flown in the winding

The buzz sound often related with the transformer is due to the flow of Alternating Current through it, for half cycle all electrons are moving in one direction and for next half on opposite direction, electrons collide while changing the direction and constitute the buzz sound. If you provide a DC even fluctuating you won't get any sound.
Also since sound is energy, some energy is being lost in this.
