what is deffrence between squirral cage and wound rotor in
IM?
Answer / Arun Yadav
Squirrel cage and wound rotor are both types of electric motors, but they have key differences:n
1. Squirrel Cage: This is an induction motor with a simple design, featuring a rotor composed of a cylindrical frame filled with conducting bars and end rings. The rotor does not have any windings, making it easy to manufacture and less expensive.n
2. Wound Rotor: In this type of motor, the rotor has windings (similar to the stator) wrapped around its laminated iron core. These windings can be connected to an external resistor or a voltage regulator, allowing for speed control through slip rings and brushes.nnIn summary, squirrel cage motors are simpler, less expensive, and don't have adjustable speed, while wound rotor motors offer adjustable speed but are more complex and costly.
