for 1 m length steel rod
I ts volume V =(Pi/4)*Dia x Dia X L
=(3.14/4)x D x D X 1 (for 1 m length)
Density of Steel=7850 kg/ cub meter
Weight = Volume x Density
=(3.14/4)x D x D X 1 x7850 (if D is in mm )
So = ((3.14/4)x D x D X 1 x7850)/(1000x1000)
= DxD/162.27

Derivation of Constant 162:
dead weight of steel is 7850 kg/cum
formula
(area of bar) x (1 meter of bar) = volume of bar
(3.14/4 x d/1000 x d/1000) x 1 meter = volume of bar
(0.000000785 x d x d)cum (dia. convert to meter)
1 cum of steel is 7850 kg
so (0.0000007845 x d x d) cum of steel bar is
(0.000000785 x d x d) x 7850 =0.006162 x d x d = d x d /162 (1/0.006162 = 162)

Weight of bar = d^2/162 x lenghth of barfor 1000 mm (1 meter) length Reinforcement rod
Weight = Volume X Density
Weight = (Area x Length) X Density
Weight = ( Pi/4 x d^2 x Length) X Density
= (3.14/4 x d^2 x 1000) X 7850
Density of steel is in Kg/m^3 & Length is in MM
So Lets Convert Density of steel KG/m^3 to MM (7850 / 1000x1000x1000 (i.e. m^3) )
= (0.785 x d^2x1000) X 0.00000785
= d^2 x 0.00616225
Lets assume 1
= d^2/1 x 0.00616225/1
Let reverse
= d^2 / 1 / 0.00616225
= d^2 / 162.278
Say d^2 / 162
