how to calculate the no load current in transformer?
Answer / Vinika Choudhary
Calculating no-load current in a transformer is done using the open circuit (no-load) test. However, the exact method may vary depending on the type of transformer and the specific measurement apparatus available.nFor a simple two-winding transformer:
1. Connect an ammeter between the primary winding and a load resistor (usually 50 or 100 ohms).
2. Apply power to the primary winding while measuring the current in the ammeter, which represents the no-load current.
3. Record the reading when the transformer's secondary winding becomes energized (known as the no-load current point).
4. Calculate the no-load current percentage using the following formula: No-Load Current Percentage = (No-Load Current / Full-Load Current) * 100
