Why current shoots up in the secondary on the knee point voltage during saturation test of CT? How ..

Answer / Mohd Shakib Ansari

During a saturation test of a current transformer (CT), the current is forced through the core to achieve maximum magnetization. This leads to an increase in magnetic flux and a corresponding increase in the magnetic field, causing the flux linkage across the secondary winding to rise. As a result, the voltage induced in the secondary winding also increases, which can be measured at the knee point of the CT.

The core saturation affects the secondary current by limiting the ability of the core material to support additional magnetic flux once it reaches its saturation point. When the core is saturated, any increase in primary current results in a proportional increase in secondary current due to limited magnetization potential. This is known as the non-linear relationship between the primary and secondary currents.
