SYNCRONOUS MOTOR AT NOLOAD CONDITION IT BEHAVES LIKE A
CAPACITOR
AT OVER LOAD CONDITION IT BEHAVES LIKE A INDUCTOR
AT NORMAL OPERATING CONDITION,IT BEHAVES LIKE A RESISTOR
THAT IS AT NORMAL CONDITION IT OPERATES IN UNITY POWERFACTOR

Answer / ilayaprabha
when the synchronous motor is run in normal condition , it will act as a inductor. it draws the lagging current from the supply.
when the synchronous motor is run under over excitation, it will act as capacitor that means it draws the leading current from the supply.
this is the key to improve the power factor.

my 10 hp submersible pump is tripping when connected through ELCB.I have checked the megger value of the coil's with body.It was found to be 0.2mega ohm.that is leakage is there. But when connected to mccb it is not tripping.no leakage current in the motor. Is it safe to connect to mccb? what are the problem's will arise if future?also tell me in ELCB no neutral is connected to motor.than how ELCB was working?
